Rose Blake, 38: 11-Year-Old Witnesses His Father Murder His Mother
It was an average morning in the town of Conroe, Texas, in February 2017 until police dispatch got a disturbing call from an 11-year-old boy. There was some sort of chaos happening at his home, but authorities couldn’t believe what they found at the scene. The child told police that he needed immediate assistance because he watched as his father, Medger Blake, stabbed his mother, Rose Blake, to death.
It took the police eight minutes to arrive, and they found the boy frightened and covered in his mother’s blood. He was terrified and had called the police while locked inside of a bathroom in his home. Police stormed into the house and surprisingly found Medger with a knife in hand in the master bedroom.
In his anger, or as some have speculated as a way to encourage a police-assisted suicide, Medger reportedly lunged at officers and tried to stab one of them. He was shot multiple times and died at the scene.
That morning, a child lost both his parents in unimaginable acts of violence.
“They were forced to shoot out of fear of their safety,” Montgomery County Sheriff’s Captain Bryan Carlisle said. “Twenty years of law enforcement, I’ve seen a lot of bad things, so have deputies. This is pretty rough.”
Rose Blake worked at ExxonMobil and they shared a statement with Eyewitness News: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by this news. Our thoughts and prayers are with Rose’s family and friends. Counselors are available on our campus to support her colleagues.”
Investigators later found an eight-page, hand-written note that Medger left behind where he apologized for the killing. He “detailed what the suspect wanted to happen in the aftermath of the murder,” including “explicit instructions on what to do with the house, vehicles and other assets,” the sheriff’s office said.
What led up to the altercation and if there were any other incidents of violence in their relationship is unclear.
