Veda Lou Powers, 29: Devoted Mother, Vanishes On Her Way Home
Although she had the day off from work, 29-year-old Veda Lou Powers went about her morning routine as usual in Nashville, Tennessee. She reportedly woke up in the early morning of May 26, 1982, got her kids ready for the day, and took her children to daycare before heading to her sister’s house to take her to work.
During the drive, Veda spoke with her sister about not having a shift at St. Thomas Hospital and told her that she had no real plans set for the day. Veda said she was going to go home and get back into bed. No one has seen or heard from Veda since.
Veda’s Car Is Found Not Far From Home
Because Veda was such a devoted parent, her family began to worry when she didn’t pick up her children. The first day she was missing was enough to worry her loved ones, but when, two days later, her 1975 Chevrolet Monza was found, they started to panic.
The vehicle was parked just one block from her home with her prescription eyeglasses in the backseat. The scene was puzzling to investigators. Veda Lou Powers loved her children and wouldn’t abandon them, according to those close to her. She had a wonderful relationship with her family, and her supervisors describe her as a reliable employee, ruling out any animosity in her career or home life.
Police believe that Veda may have been kidnapped, and she was listed as an endangered missing adult. Her case went cold, and seven years after she vanished, Veda was considered legally dead. Her mother took on the responsibility of raising her children.

At the time of her disappearance, Veda Lou Powers stood 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighed 110 pounds. She had black/dark brown hair and brown eyes. No other information regarding identifiable markings or scarring has been made available to the public.
