Ebony Giddens, 27: Disappeared Two Days After Domestic Dispute with BF

Every morning, Ebony Giddens would be visited by her brother, who would come by her house to pick up her three sons and take them to school. It’s common for this close-knit Columbus, Georgia, family to do things with and for one another, yet their routine changed on Monday, March 12, 2018. When Ebony’s brother knocked on the door and didn’t get an answer, he became confused. His sister always greeted him at the door and rushed her little ones off with their uncle. This time, however, the knocks went unanswered.

“Her brother then called me and asked if I had talked to her that morning,” Roderick Daniel, the father of Ebony’s son, said. He spoke with Ebony in the late afternoon the day before, but they hadn’t had any contact since then. The two men frantically called Ebony, but she didn’t answer. Roderick made his way to Ebony’s home to find out if his ex and the children were safe.

“Finally, my son came to the door,” Roderick said of Ebony’s middle child. “He just said that mom was gone.”

Nothing Seemed Out Of Order The Night Before

The previous evening, a relative said they spoke with 27-year-old Ebony and that the conversation ended around 11:00 p.m. There was nothing that alerted the family member about Ebony’s behavior. She didn’t seem to be in any distress and didn’t speak of taking a trip or leaving her home for any reason. However, the next morning her children were found by her brother alone in the home.

Ebony Allegedly Complained To Her Family About Her Boyfriend

Days before her disappearance, Ebony did tell her family that she was afraid of her boyfriend, Malcolm Jackson. On Saturday, March 10, two days before she went missing, she called the police on Jackson, and he was arrested on simple assault charges. He was released on bond.

“He had jumped on her. He busted her lip and he pulled a gun on her and that was the last straw. She had him arrested,” Chernda Pendleton, Ebony’s cousin, said.

“He kept calling her on Saturday and she told him it was over,” Roderick told Dateline. “The neighbors later told me they saw the boyfriend working on Ebony’s car on Sunday. Then Monday, she’s missing.”

Although Jackson was out of jail during the time of Ebony’s disappearance, he was arrested the day after she disappeared. She took out a protective order on him, but he didn’t adhere to it. He was charged with aggravated stalking and felony violation of probation.

Police Initially Didn’t Believe The Case Involved Foul Play

During the initial phases of the investigation, police said they didn’t suspect foul play was involved in her disappearance. Ebony’s family begged to differ because they stated that Ebony would never leave her children, especially at home alone. When investigators searched her home, they found that all of her personal belongings were still inside.

“She’s a very good, sweet person. She loves her kids,” Ebony’s mother, Lisa, said.

“That’s one of the sweetest people you could ever meet,” says Pendleton of her cousin. “I mean she’ll give you anything and for somebody to take her from her home it’s just not right. I’m optimistic because we believe in prayer and I know she is going to come home safe.”

Her sons are all being cared for by their fathers.

Ebony Giddens stands at a petite 4 feet 9 inches tall and weighed 110 pounds at the time of her disappearance. She has black/dark brown hair and brown eyes. When she was last seen, Ebony’s hair was in braids, but without them, her family said her hair was short. Her middle name is “Monique.”
