Elizabeth Walston Godwin, 77: Went To Bed & Vanished By Morning

There are few details available regarding the mysterious case of Elizabeth Walston Godwin. The 77-year-old Camden, North Carolina resident was last seen by her family on May 22, 1988. Elizabeth lived with her daughter and her son-in-law, and that evening, she was home with her daughter, but her son-in-law was at work.

According to reports, Elizabeth retired to her bedroom at 9:30 p.m. Her daughter left the home sometime after 11:00 p.m. because she had to pick up her husband from work. They allegedly returned home at 1:00 a.m. and went to bed. There wasn’t anything reported to be strange or unusual at the time.

On the morning of May 23, Elizabeth’s daughter said she went to her mother’s room to check on her, but she found that Elizabeth wasn’t there. There has been no reported indication that Elizabeth intended to leave. It is unclear if her personal belongings (purse, identification, money) were left behind.

Elizabeth has never been seen or heard from again. At the time of her disappearance, Elizabeth was 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds. She is described as having black/dark brown hair and brown eyes. Elizabeth wore glasses and may have been wearing a pink nightgown when she went missing.

Considering her age, even if Elizabeth lived years after she disappeared, she would have passed on by now (her age at the time of this publication would be 108). However, just because she won’t be found alive doesn’t mean that the strangeness surrounding her missing person case doesn’t deserve attention.
