Shanythia Greene, 17: Went Missing Teen’s Car Found Abandoned

Shanythia Mashelle Greene

For nearly three decades, the loved ones of Shanythia Mashelle Greene have attempted to retrace her last steps. August 26, 1993, was the last time anyone reportedly remembered seeing or hearing from Shanythia, and the puzzling events began at 5:00 a.m.

It was then that the 17-year-old left her home in Pompano Beach, Florida, because she’d made plans with her boyfriend to take him to work. Yet, it’s unclear if they ever met, but Shanythia’s mother woke up at 8:00 a.m. and assumed her daughter was at home. Shanythia’s door was closed, and the teen’s car was outside, so the mother went to work without a second thought.

Shanythia, a graduate of Ely High School, was scheduled to work at K-Mart that day, but she missed her shift. When Shanythia’s mother returned home from work at 10:00 p.m. that evening, the 17-year-old’s car was gone. Again, there wasn’t a need to worry because Shanythia’s mother assumed that her daughter was out somewhere with her boyfriend. However, around 3:00 a.m., the teen’s mother realized Shanythia wasn’t at the residence and missed her 1:30 a.m. curfew. Her worried family made calls and attempted to locate her, but within hours, they contacted authorities to file a missing person report. Shanythia had never left home before, so this was out of character.

Investigators learned that Shanythia and her car may have been gone, but nothing else was missing. All her clothes were still accounted for, and when they looked at her bank records, no money had been moved. Three days after she disappeared, Shanythia’s vehicle—a white 1992 Pontiac LeMans— was located at a Days Inn motel. It was locked and seemed abandoned, but Shanythia’s personal items, including her purse and a fake identification with the name “Toquerta C. Montgomery,” were inside.

Following A Lead In The Case

Police couldn’t find Shanghai, but they did receive information that she may have been seen speaking with an unidentified man at the motel. He was described as a Black man who drove an eighteen-wheeler truck fitted with a blue cab. The license plates were reportedly from the state of New Jersey.

Two years after she was reported missing, authorities received a call that Shanythia’s remains could be found at a Pompano Beach residence. The person told police that the teen’s body was buried in the yard. A search was completed but nothing was found.
