Phyllis Gilliam, 11: Disappeared During Trip To Laundromat In 1971

Phyllis Gilliam

It’s time to highlight another missing person case with few details. In 1971, Phyllis Gilliam was just 11 years old. She was reportedly at her grandmother’s apartment in Columbia, South Carolina, when, on August 16, she told her loved ones that she was walking to a laundromat on Read Street. It’s unclear what occurred during her journey, but little Phyllis Gilliam was never seen or heard from again.

Whether or not Phyllis ever reached her destination remains a mystery, as do other details. Were there witnesses who saw her during her trip, or did she stop and speak to anyone? How far away was the laundromat from her grandmother’s home? And had Phyllis made that walk alone before?

Phyllis Gilliam: What To Know
