Chenell Gilbert, 42, Was Last At Her Ex’s Home Before Going Missing

What began as a missing person investigation for Indianapolis police has reportedly turned into a possible homicide. On June 9, 2020, Chenell Gilbert left her home and was set to return sometime in the afternoon or evening. The 42-year-old’s two daughters waited on their mother’s arrival, but when she never showed up, they grew concerned. Soon, they learned of the last location where their mother’s cell phone pinged: at Chenell’s ex-boyfriend’s home in the city.

Chenell Gilbert missing 1It’s reported that Chenell Gilbert’s vehicle was found at her ex-boyfriend’s residence sitting in the driveway, however, the length of the investigation into him as a potential person of interest remains unclear. He hasn’t been named in reports, although it should be noted that I was unable to find any updates about this case after November 2020.

“Well the last time I talked to her was maybe a day before her disappearance,” Chenell’s aunt Sherri Ross told Fox 59. “It was just unbelievable. And when they told that they had traced her cell phone back to her ex-boyfriend’s house, that’s when I became a little concerned.”

When one of Chenell’s daughters went to her ex’s home and asked to search for signs of her mother, the man reportedly refused.  According to Fox 59, Chenell’s family was upset because investigators didn’t name him as a person of interest. It reportedly took days for authorities to obtain a search warrant for his residence and by October, they stated the missing person case was now a homicide investigation.

“We assume that she is deceased… Based on her not having any correspondence with her family,” said IMPD Public Affairs, Officer William Young. “We’re still searching for leads. We encourage the community if you have any tips you can call us at 262-TIPS where you can remain anonymous. Or you can contact our investigators in person or contact them over the phone 327-3475.”

It’s really sad that she is out there somewhere and we don’t know where she is. And it’s just a big void and hole in everyone’s heart. How can you move on when you have a family member that’s missing?”

Chenell’s daughters have a GoFundMe account that you can check out here.

At the time of her disappearance, Chenell Gilbert stood 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighed 160 to 180 pounds. She had black/dark brown hair and brown eyes. Chenell has several tattoos: a heart tattoo of the word “Love” on her chest, an infinity symbol tattoo with three flowers on her left forearm, and a heart tattoo with the word “C-Lo” on her lower back. Her middle name is “Renee.”
