Lyric Brown, 21: Found Shot In The Middle Of The Street

A grieving family is searching for answers in the callous slaying of Lyric Brown. Last month, devastating news began to circulate about the 21-year-old mother after she was found by police lying in the middle of the road near Sorley Road and Old Providence Way in a Cockeysville neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. It was just after 1:00 a.m. on July 10 (some reports state July 11) when officers were dispatched to the location following a call from someone who told authorities that there was a woman in the street.
When responding officers found Lyric Brown, they saw that she suffered a gunshot wound to the upper body. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but lifesaving efforts proved to be futile as the young mother later succumbed to her injuries. She leaves behind a two-year-old daughter and was described as being a devoted and attentive mother.
According to reports, Lyric lived across the street from where she was found.
“We’re talking about a 21-year-old who was found in the middle of the road, unconscious, shot in the upper body, who died as a result of the injuries so if anyone does have information that might help detectives solve this case, we certainly want to hear from you,” said Joy Steward, the Baltimore County police spokesperson.
In the days following, Lyric’s neighbors tried to make sense of the tragedy while speaking with reporters.
“Heartbreaking, and she’s still a child herself at twenty-one. I mean it makes no sense,” said neighbor Dawn Blevins. “I actually came out about [nine o’clock] to walk the dog the other day and I was a little nervous because it was dark and I thought, ‘Geez, should I be on guard? Was it someone that she knew?’ I don’t know.”
Police have understandably kept their cards close to the chest and haven’t shared much about their investigation. However, they did reveal that they are “exploring every avenue,” including the possibility that Lyric Brown was targeted in the shooting.
Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact Baltimore County detectives at 410-307-2020 or their local authorities. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward when submitting tips through Metro Crime Stoppers.
