Mattie Wilson, 55: Sent To Homeless Shelter By Hospital & Disappeared
A medical emergency unknowingly set off this missing person case. In 2008, Mattie Wilson suffered her second stroke and was admitted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. The 55-year-old was hospitalized for three weeks while she recovered, and during that time, her daughter was reportedly seeking new permanent housing for Mattie in a nursing home.
According to reports, there was some sort of mistake made, and Mattie was not only discharged from the hospital without her family’s knowledge but she was taken to a homeless shelter called the Restoration House. The Charley Project reported that the shelter was “in the 3500 block of Dumast in the Frayser section of town.”
She Walked Out Of The Shelter & Vanished
Upon arriving at the shelter on July 30, 2008, Mattie’s paperwork was quickly processed, and she was set to stay at Restoration House for two weeks. Mattie reportedly walked outside the shelter to smoke a cigarette and has never been seen again. Information about this case and the subsequent investigation are scarce.
Further, Mattie is said to have once worked as a secretary for the Memphis City Council and is beloved by her large family, which includes two children and nine grandkids. There have reportedly been no leads to help investigators find out what happened to this ailing grandmother on that summer day all those years ago.

At the time of her disappearance, Mattie Wilson stood 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 100 to 110 pounds. She had black/dark brown hair and brown eyes. Due to her strokes, Mattie had slurred speech. She may have walked with a limp and had reportedly experienced memory loss.
