Home » Lisa Walton, 22: Baby Boy Found Alone After Mother Goes Missing In 1986
Detroit police officers are used to receiving strange calls during the New Year’s holiday and in the following weeks. From noise complaints to those who may have had too much to drink, dispatch is on the receiving end of thousands of phone calls from people who keep the party rolling throughout January, but a tip about an abandoned baby would lead to the unanswered mystery of what happened to Lisa Walton.
On January 21, 1986, a baby was located in an alley on the city’s east side. There wasn’t a note left behind and nothing on the child indicated who the parents may have been, but thankfully, he was unharmed. Police were under the impression that the little one was a baby girl until a diaper change revealed they were handling a boy.
Without knowing who the child’s parents were, the baby was placed in protective custody where he was quickly taken to a temporary foster home, reads a news clipping at the time. To identify the baby, authorities allowed for a photo of him to be shared with the media. It was then that the boy’s grandmother recognized him on a newscast and went to retrieve her 11-month-old grandson, Darnell Walton.
The child belonged to Lisa Walton, a 22-year-old pregnant woman who could not be located. The last time anyone saw her was at her home the day prior, but what happened to Lisa is unknown. The development of this case is also unclear—meaning I could not find information detailing any persons of interest, possible suspects, or even the name or names of the fathers of Lisa’s children.
That little boy is now a man in his 30s and it is reported that he, along with his mother’s best friend, continues searching for information regarding what happened to Lisa in 1986. It was reported that just a few years ago, Lisa’s case was reopened thanks to their inquiries.
At the time of her disappearance, Lisa Walton stood 5 feet 6 inches tall to 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighed 160 pounds. She had brown hair with reddish tones and brown eyes. Both of her ears are pierced. What she may have been wearing the last time she was seen is unknown. Some agencies list her missing person date as “January 1.” She would be 58 years old at the time of this publication.
Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Detroit Police Department at (313) 596-1800 or their local authorities. The agency case number is 1611080199.
