Berkeley County Jane Doe: Remains Located In Vacant Lot In 1977

Berkeley County Jane Doe 2

Unfortunately, the write-up for this case is a short one. I did my best to find as much public information as possible about a woman only known as Berkeley County Jane Doe, but because this case reaches far back to October 4, 1977, there is very little to be found. News reports are almost non-existent as are updates about this investigation. To be fair, authorities did not have much to go on, and now that it has been decades since this woman’s remains were located in Goose Creek, South Carolina, there does not seem to be any interest in finding out who she is and if she has any remaining living relatives.

According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), the Berkeley County Jane Doe case was launched after workers were clearing a vacant lot and came across something strange. It is unclear what portion of the remains were initially located, but it was reported that Berkeley County Jane Doe was found skeletonized. The remains were scattered. There wasn’t information shared about when investigators believed she actually died. The cause of death is unknown, as well.

When Berkeley County Jane Doe was discovered, the Medical Examiner determined that she likely walked with a marked stoop, which is characteristic of people with certain medical conditions or the elderly. A stoop is described as when a person stands or walks with the posture of their head or upper back best forward (may even be referred to as a hunchback, but that is a different condition). It was estimated that she stood between 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, but due to the state of the remains, her weight could not be determined. Her hair color and eye colors are unknown. She could have been any age between 20 to 75.
