Margaret Diaz, 32: Last Seen At Her Birthday Party In 1988

Margaret Diaz Missing

Internet sleuths have been trying to figure out what happened to Margaret Diaz. Details remain scarce, but Margaret reportedly disappeared during the summer of 1988. As a matter of fact, the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) reported that Margaret was last seen at her 32nd birthday party on July 4 in Tacoma, Washington. It was noted that Margaret was with her family at the time, however, it is unclear where she was, if she left the event by herself or with another person, if she had plans to meet up with someone, or her mental state during the get-together.

It has been reported that Margaret Diaz lived a “high-risk lifestyle,” but again, there weren’t specifics given. This description is often used for people involved in “street life”—drug use, sex work, crime, or simply being in proximity to others who are engaged in such behaviors. Margaret also was said to have frequented the Hilltop neighborhood of Tacoma which, at the time of her disappearance, was synonymous with drug-related crime and gang activity. There was a particular explosion of crime as the crack epidemic took over the area, especially as we ushered in the 1990s.

Margaret was the mother of three children, and despite reports about her lifestyle choices, it was stated that she wasn’t the type of parent to cut off contact. She has never been seen or heard from again, and over the years, there have been inquiries about Jane Does or speculation regarding if she could have been a victim of Gary Ridgeway, also known as The Green River Killer. The serial killer was convicted of 49 murders in Washington (Seattle and Tacoma areas) and his victims consisted of prostitutes and underage runaways. While his conviction was for 49 women, it is estimated that he could have as many as over 70 victims.

At the time of her disappearance, Margaret Diaz stood 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighed 125 pounds. She had black/dark brown hair and green eyes. Margaret is described as being biracial (Black and white). What she was last seen wearing or any distinguishing marks she may have had are unknown. Her middle name is “Elaine,” her maiden name is “Cohen,” and she would also go by her previous married name of “Riley.” She would be 64 years old at the time of this publication.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office at (253) 798-7530 or their local authorities. The agency case number is 2212500940.
