Delecia Waddy, 24: Vanished From Campsite In 2017

This mystery has stumped investigators, but one thing is for sure: everyone wants Delecia Waddy home. This reads like a story out of a book; a vibrant 24-year-old woman walks away from a campsite and disappears. Delecia was with relatives on March 9, 2017, at the Kings Dominion Camp Wilderness Campground in Doswell, Virginia, when she went missing. Months ago, her mother, Felecia Waddy, detailed what occurred.

“She went in to negotiate a cabin, is what I was told by the rep there,” Felecia shared with WTVR News. “And they haggled back and forth about a price and couldn’t agree on it. So, she walked away and sat down, the lady said. She said she thought about calling the authorities but just chalked it up to Delicia maybe having a bad day.”

It’s said that Delicia Waddy was seen walking in the direction of Route 30 and later crossed county lines. The Caroline County Sheriff’s Department is reportedly leading the investigation. They were alerted when Delecia’s SUV vehicle was located in nearby Hanover County, about 30-ish minutes away. The car was still running, and quickly, police used tracking dogs in an attempt to find the missing woman.

Then, authorities were led to an area of Meadow Event Park near a home. Around the back, Delecia Waddy’s belongings were located. Her purse, wallet, shoes, clothing, and mobile phone were described as being neatly stacked together. However, there wasn’t any other evidence to suggest where Delecia could have gone.

Meanwhile, her family denies that she would walk away from her life. She never exhibited behaviors like this before, and Delecia’s sister, Brittany Waddy, says this sort of event isn’t in Delecia’s character. The family fears she may have been abducted.

“My prayer every night is for God to just give us a clue so we can find out what happened to my sister,” said Brittany. “I’ve just been a shell. I take it one day at a time. It hurts. It really does feel like there’s definitely a void. I haven’t been the same since this happened. But like my mom said, we are not giving up. It’s made me not trust people, for sure.”

For five years, the search has continued. The Waddy family has set up a Facebook Page for Delecia, offering updates and spreading awareness where they can. Local news stations have also re-shared information about the case, but for now, police are waiting for a break. Investigators hope that someone, somewhere, saw Delecia walking down the road and witnessed something. An acquaintance of Delecia’s reportedly told police they saw her walking in Richmond, Virginia, three days after she disappeared. However, the person wasn’t aware she was missing at the time.
